ALBERTON – Elana Grove, who is a resident, smelled a hint of smoke and she investigated to see where it was coming from. She called Hester,the caretaker to inform her about the burning flat.
Elana Grove quickly called another resident, Elsa Henning, and they both attempted to stop the fire from outside of the top floor.
The fire department was contacted by various community residents and responded immediately. Two stations responded (Tokoza and Alberton); forced entry upon arrival had to be done in order to extinguish the additional fire.
The fire apparently began in the living room area; no one was in the flat at the time and mostly everything had been burnt and melted, though some of the flat remained intact.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
