Another tree bites the dust

Council workers are focusing on numerous areas in Alberton which needs their attention.

RANDHART – A fully grown tree was being cut in Sarah Crescent, Randhart by council workers on October 18 before the supervisors stopped the process and took their machinery.

The very same night the tree fell over onto the road, blocking the way for residents to get to their homes, as the crescent is a one way.

The family whose home was being renovated did not stay on the property but somehow they were charged R20 000 for water. A pipe had burst by the tree’s roots. Thankfully R10 000 was deducted in the interim.

Around January or February the family put in a request for the tree to be removed because of the roots causing problems, it was never done until the tree finally fell over after workers cut down the tree illegally.

The family removed the tree in their own capacity and put it on the side of the pavement where the park is. “We never get any assistance from the municipality and then they say there are no funds and the trucks are broken.

“The workers leave a mess after they have eaten and then I, as a resident, must go clean after them. The jobs are five minute jobs and never done properly,” said one residents.

The council members said that they are going into numerous areas up until the end of the year and are focusing on certain areas which need the attention.

There will also be an investigation to find out who it was that cut the tree without any authorisation to do so and they will be charged according to the bylaws.

  1. Response to another Tree Bites the dust….

Some things I will never understand, like how and why council Tree Huggers can run around stopping residents from protecting their own property? Like when roots are busy damaging the infrastructure, roads, pipes, electrical work, they go out of their way to stop people from pruning the trees and removing them? This specialised team of tree huggers who I assume are all part of a political party, and they are the chosen ones to assist the residents of Alberton with the service delivery issues, you never hear or see on the front page news that these specialised units help the residents complain about all the potholes, dirt, scum, the filthy river and sewerage drains overflowing in private property.

Take for an example Van Riebeeck Avenue where hot pot paints is situated, you never see the council clean there! Alberton looks like a dump, they give more attention to trees, which can be planted in parks around alberton…. and even create a place for families. No these people I feel personally do what they do for self accomplishment! Only when you start helping people, or find a solution to people’s problems do you feel true and honest fulfilment.

Like a while back there was a body found in the river across the road from Alberton City, this body was estimated by various saps members to have been there for minimum 30 days, now my question to these super council supervisor, why was this body there for 30 days? easy, because your council or supervisors never clean there.

Another prime example will be the corner of francis and kritzinger, the council decided to close this road awhile back, yes less traffic to the suburb, but they never clean there, people sit during the day and drink there, actually they do everything there.

Another example would be all these illegal businesses operating in Alberton it seems our council has once again failed to help the residents, must be nice sitting outside on the grass underneath a tree, while your neighbours are busy repairing the whole Alberton cars. Or while you spending some time with your family and the sound of grinders and hammers fall upon you like a thief in the night. I could probably carry on, but seriously, maybe the council should wake up and smell the coffee!! Because it doesn’t help you save the trees but you can save the city where the trees are growing.

I think council should really sit down, like in one of those paid meetings, where people get paid for their opinion and think about the whole plan of Alberton again, I can honestly say that I am completely disgusted with the Alberton Town Council management and super supervisors. The whole another tree bites the dust was just to show how Alberton Council fails their residents over and over and over.

A more accurate and truthful title would have been, “Council Fails, Tree’s Die!!!”
