Toddlers’ mother charged with murders

Mother of two toddlers who were found dead in Katlehong faces two charges of murder for allegedly poisoning her children.

ZONKESIZWE – Sowetan Live reported, “The mother of two girls found dead in Katlehong was charged with murders in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, Gauteng police said.”

Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini was quoted as saying, “The case was postponed to October 28.”

Esther Moyana faces two charges of murder for allegedly poisoning her children.

Residents found the toddlers, aged one and three, dead in a field near Zonkizizwe, Katlehong on Wednesday October 16.

According to Sowetan Live, “Moyana was admitted to hospital in a critical condition, but was discharged and placed under arrest on Thursday.”

She initially told the police that her husband abandoned her and the children in the veld on Tuesday, while on their way from Witbank to Johannesburg.

Reports suggest that the woman claimed her husband left them with a cool drink, which they drank that night. When she woke in the morning, the children were dead.

The Newspaper reported, “Police later said there appeared to be discrepancies in Moyana’s story.”

Her husband had been located and made a statement to police; Dlamini was reported as saying on Thursday October 17.
