Animal awareness day

Animals are man's best friend and are always looking for a loving home, so why not give these pets a chance.

AN Animal Awareness Day was held at Dukelinds Dog Park in Rietvlei Zoo Farm in aid of Alberton SPCA. The day began with a 3km Fun Walk which was well attended and enjoyed by both humans and canines.

During the afternoon, agility demonstrations were presented by Duke’s Academy for Dogs from beginner to advanced. This gave people the opportunity to see how dogs progress and show it’s not all plain sailing but any dog can attempt it.

Two raffles were launched – one for a Hound Sleeper and the other for a Pooch Parlour makeover. Tickets can be purchased at Alberton SPCA in Lincoln Road for R10 per raffle. The draw takes place at the end of September. Both prizes are worth over R500 each and were generously donated to Alberton SPCA.

In addition, fun competitions were run and people were also able to stroll around the various stalls or sit with a picnic. Food and drinks were on sale and actually sold out! Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed the day and asked about the next walk.

A big thank you to Lindsay Seller and her team at Duke’s Academy for Dogs, as well as everyone who made the day such a success. Another event is planned for early March 2014.

A total of R6 300 was raised for Alberton SPCA which will help us in our mission of preventing cruelty to animals.

Please support your SPCA – they receive no government funding and rely solely on the community’s generosity to provide care for all animals in the area.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
