Stoneridge came out tops

Stoneridge's marimba band left all the competing schools with dust in their eyes.

ON Saturday September 7 the Soweto Marimba Festival was held at Morris Isaacson High School where schools competed against each other. The event had a massive participation of about 100 schools nationally and Stoneridge was one of them

Stoneridge left all the competing schools with dust in their eyes. The band was the most outstanding band especially in the ‘own choice’ category and it obtained first position. Being in first place made the teacher, N Zekanie very proud and excited.

“We walloped all the participating schools and I was very excited when the adjudicator commended me for teaching the learners to use the marimba as an instrument that produced exceptional music which the band did with extraordinary expertise.

“Well this is mainly what makes Stoneridge Primary Marimba Band an outstanding group of dynamic young kids,” said Zekani.

“WE are very proud of our band. They obtained first position in 2012 and now again first in 2013 at the Soweto Marimba Festival. They mature every year and just become better,” said the principal, Richard Carelse.
