Members of Eikenhof Women’s Institute had a fabulous morning with guest speaker, Netty Hertog, a professional baker, who showed the ladies how easy it is to decorate cupcakes.
Netty chose to decorate cupcakes in children’s themes, “which make a wonderful party stopper at children’s birthday parties,” she said.
Explaining how to make a good butter icing, which is perfect to decorate cupcakes, Netty went on to ice and decorate cupcakes, using sweets and chocolates to make faces, hair, eyes and noses.
Netty decorated cupcakes as Percy pig, a ladybird, duck, teddy bear, Dora The Explorer and Despicable Me.
After watching Netty, members decorated a cupcake each, with Percy pig being a favourite with quite a few members.
Refreshments were served and Netty gave a few tips on cupcake baking and decorating.
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday October 9 at 09:30 in the hall of St Andrew’s Church, Burger Street, Suideroord, and will be in the form of Show Day. This is a day when all the members make, bake and bottle their chosen five items each, to enter the competition.
All are very welcome to come along and see what the women’s institute is all about and see the very interesting Show Day. Who knows, you may decide to become a member yourself and even begin your own group, which will be a part of an International group.
