A group of dedicated Damelin students are planning to host a careers fair for disabled pupils in Alrode.

These pupils with physical disabilities attend Ezibeleni School, founded in 1963. Half the school’s premises were declared an unsafe Dolomite site recently.

“It bothers us to think these children have their physical disabilities holding them back, and they’re left out of the school system with no hope or any idea that there are systems or programmes for them to reach their full potential,” says team leader Neo Netshisaulu, who spearheads the group of students who call themselves the Phoenixes.

“We currently are rounding up stall holders to participate at the careers fair. The learners will be able to visit all the stalls we have and weigh their options. We plan to have a balance of competitions, entertainment, and motivational segments as well as a well-deserved lunch.”

Netshisaulu explains, “We are a group of dynamic individuals and part time conference and events management students at Damelin Alberton.

The conditions they live and study under are horrible. Most of the school is falling apart and it’s strenuous not only on the educators but the students as well.”

Contact Neo 011 908 4534, 082 822 2177, or neonetshisaulu@yahoo.com if your company would be interested in booking a stall at the careers fair, at a cost of R1 000.

Proceeds will be used to uplift the school.
