GALLERY: Another successful PPS Alberton Road Race

The winners of the 10km race were Marko Bacurizza and Sarah Copeland. The half marathon winners were Derocious Makhobalo and Yolande Mclean.

The PPS Alberton Road Race was hosted, in conjunction with Alberton Athletic Club, on November 10, with the race finishing at Alberton Rugby Club.

Despite the less than ideal weather, social and elite runners from all over Johannesburg came to take part in the half marathon, 10km race and the fun run.

Among the top contenders competing for prizes were South African Olympic athletes René and Christene Kalmer and local running hero Dylan van der Merwe, all from Murray and Roberts running club.

The race also hosted the likes of official Comrades coach Lindsey Parry.

In the 10km men’s race, Marko Bacurizza won the day in a time of 31:08. Second was Dylan van der Merwe, coming in at 31:16 and Thabo Tshabango was third with a time of 32:40.

In the ladies’ 10km, Sarah Copeland was champion with a time of 39:40. Patricia Gouws place second with a time of 40:52 and Christene Seema was third, coming in at 41:09.

In the half marathon the winner in the men’s race was Derocious Makhobalo with a time of 1:12.27. Second was Thabo Motaung with a time of 1:13.12 and in third place was Delight Sithole, coming in at 1:13.32.

In the ladies’ race, Yolande Mclean finished on top with a time of 1:23.05. Coming in second was Christene Kalmer with a time of 1:25.12 and in third was René Kalmer finishing at 1:26.27.

As part of the event’s new charity initiative, all of the race proceeds from the fun run event was donated to Amcare.

The organisers would like to thank PPS, the Alberton community and Amcare for supporting the race and look forward to an even better event in 2020.
