THE RECORD wanted to know how locals feel about Halloween and asked a few community members. They shared a variety of opinions.

WENDY STOVAY: “No I don’t celebrate Halloween at all. I follow the Bible and don’t like the origins and connotations of the celebrations.”
BONGANI MNISI: “To me it sounds like Halloween is an expensive tradition to participate in. I don’t celebrate it and I don’t really believe in it.”
WILLIAM SMITH: “No, I don’t celebrate Halloween. I think it’s an unholy event and it’s especially an unnecessary waste of money and time.”
ROMANO LOTTERING: “We do celebrate Halloween. We like to dress up as scary clowns and give the children a fright.”
MORGAN FAURA: “Of course I celebrate Halloween. It’s a wonderful time for people to come together, have fun and get creative with dressing up. Me and my loved ones celebrate Halloween each year.”
AMY MAYSE: ”I like doing anything Halloween related. Like dressing up as something related to the dead and then going to the various parties.”
GERALD TSHUMA: “I used to celebrate Halloween often as a youngster, but these days I barely have time. I don’t have the time to dress up and celebrate Halloween anymore.”
DOLLY NEWENS: “Yes I do celebrate Halloween. It reminds me of times when I was younger.”
SYDNEY: “Yes I did celebrate Halloween. I used to dress up as an old man with a scary mask. I enjoyed it very much.”
BONGEKILE MPANGEVA: “We like to dress up like men or grandpa’s. Then we go around singing at peoples houses and asking for money.”
LINDA NTLOKWANA: “No I don’t celebrate it. I don’t think that its a part of our culture.”
NOMTHANDAZO GAMBU: “I grew up in an urban area where I never had involvement with Halloween. I’m not exactly sure what Halloween is and I don’t celebrate it.”
CYNTHIA DLAMINI: “I barely know what Halloween is. This is the first time I’ve heard about it. It’s not a part of my culture, so no, I do not celebrate or believe in Halloween.”
