Here are a few tips to keep you healthy, happy and well during winter.

DURING the colder months, it’s easy to find excuses to set your healthy habits aside so that you can stay in bed, eat whatever you like and abandon your healthy choices for a while. However, this will catch up with you when the season changes. Here are a few tips to keep you healthy, happy and well during winter.

CARDIO AS A STAPLE EXERCISE: Believe it or not, cold weather presents the best opportunities to head outside in a long-sleeved T-shirt and go for a jog or run. You won’t feel the cold if you keep moving and it will be easier to push yourself than during hot weather. Go for that run – you’ll feel great about yourself. (Image: Pixabay)
STAY MOISTURISED: When bathing and showering, don’t use very hot water, since this dries out the natural oils from your skin (you can also reduce your bath or shower time instead). When bathing, add some bath oil to the water and have a soak. Afterwards, while your skin is still wet (then it’s easier and quicker for the lotion to spread), apply oil-based lotion to your whole body and face generously. (Image: BeautiSecrets.com)
KEEP YOUR EATING HABITS HEALTHY: It’s very easy to indulge in carb-rich comfort food when it’s cold, but it’s not a good choice to make carbohydrates and sugar your staple diet. Cut the carbs and have lots of green and orange fruit and veggies instead, along with lean meats. Also remember to drink at least two litres of water a day and, if you feel like a warm drink, have some herbal tea (without the sugar, of course). (Image: lifehack.org)
GENERAL TIPS FOR WELLNESS: Have vitamin supplements daily, especially vitamin D (because there is less sunlight during cold months). Wash your hands frequently and moisturise them afterwards. Don’t go to bed too late, or else it will be a nightmare to wake up the next (cold and dark) morning. Remember to also take a few moments each day to be quiet, clear your mind, breathe and let go of all your stresses. (Image: Pixabay)
