STARTING their first year at school, Grade One learners arrived early at Eden Park Primary School clutching securely to their mothers’ hands.
However, the excitement which could clearly be seen on the parents’ and learners’ faces was short lived. The smiles changed into disappointment when it was discovered that there was a shortage of space and classrooms for the new Grade One learners.
Acting principal for the school, M Phillips, told the RECORD that the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) was supposed to have delivered two extra mobile classes at the end of 2015.
“The department let us down. The two mobile classes were suppose to have been delivered before the end of 2015 to cater for the big number of registered Grade One learners.
“Parents were very angry and disappointed. We then agreed to accommodate the learners in other classes until Friday, January 22, when the mobile classes will be delivered. I am happy to have reached an agreement with the parents,” said Phillips.
At the time of going to press the RECORD could not get confirmation from the GDE whether the delivery of classrooms will happen on January 22.
