Residents fed up with water leaks and damaged roads

Increase in water leaks and damaged roads in the area leads to the RECORD being inundated with complaints from fed up residents.

There seems to be an increase in water leaks and damaged roads in the area and the RECORD has been inundated with complaints from fed up residents. JG Strydom Road and Besembos Street in Mayberry Park and Kranskop and Alberta streets in Brackendowns are a few places experiencing problems. Anne Bendall, a resident living in Besembos Street, Mayberry Park, says EMM workers dug a massive hole a while ago and, despite being back three times, they have done nothing about it. Brian Sneyd, a man living in McBride Street, says he has called to report the leak and damaged road outside his house many times, but to no avail. “It’s a danger, the street gets very dark, so you can’t always spot the damage to avoid it”. Two residents from De Waal Street, Brackendowns, are having water meter problems. One of the residents is is allegedly getting a massive bill and has now received a final notice for payment, and the other resident's account shows no balance at all. The resident who has received the astronomical account says she has called many times, but the phones just ring and when she does get through to someone, they say they’ll sort it out, but nothing comes of it. “Aside from that, we have sewage flowing in our street as well.” The RECORD has asked for comment from the Ekhuruleni Metropolitan Municipality, but have gotten no feedback at the time of going to print.
