Plane crash lands at OR Tambo

A British Airways aircraft apparently made a crash landing on a runway at OR Tambo International on Monday afternoon.

The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has confirmed that at about noon on Monday afternoon ‘an incident’ occurred at OR Tambo International Airport involving a British Airways aircraft (BA6234) operated by Comair, Kempton Express reported

The incident resulted in the temporary closure of the runway, said Nangamso Jacobs, media liaison manager at ACSA. ACSA did not go into any details about what happened.

However, reports indicate problems occurred with the undercarriage.

All 94 passengers and six crew members have been safely removed from the aircraft and no injuries have been reported.

The airport is now utilising the second runway and this has caused some delays in and out of OR Tambo International Airport, Jacobs said.

“Passengers are encouraged to contact their respective airline for an update on their flights.”
