Vosloorus choir takes top honours at Ekurhuleni sing-off

Ekurhuleni choirs competed in the Regional Choral Competition for the opportunity to perform at the Melting Pot Choral Music Festival.

GERMISTON – The East Rand Twelve Apostles Church in Christ (TACC) choir from Vosloorus took the top honours at the Ekurhuleni Regional Choral competition held on October 11 at the Germiston City Hall.

The TACC choir competed with four other choirs for the opportunity to perform at the Ekurhuleni Melting Pot Choral Music Festival with amongst others the Gauteng Choristers and Thabong Serenades.

The festival will be held at Carnival City from October 31 to November 1 and will see choirs from around the country compete for the coveted title as South Africa’s best choral choir.

“We came prepared, our dress code, renditions and composure matched the standard of the Melting Pot.

“I am excited that our determination has gotten us this far, now the challenge remains great as we have to go and prepare for the big day in order to make yet another great impression,” said Khulu Radebe, conductor of the East Rand TACC choir.

The Buhle Melodius Choir from Tsakane claimed the second position in the standard choir category with the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department choir in third place. The top three choirs received R50 000 each. The Ekurhuleni Choristers took the fourth position and won a digital Yamaha keyboard donated by the Melting Pot Company.

“The City of Ekurhuleni endeavors to advance the passion for choral music which OR Tambo had. As such, we want to advance local choral music to greater heights so as to nurture the existing talent,” said Ekurhuleni Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture (SRAC), Clr Dora Mlambo.
