JOHANNESBURG – Eskom has warned that the grid is under pressure and the risk of load shedding is high from this morning, after some of its generating units tripped. The power system is expected to remain under strain until 22:00 this evening.
According to a report by Eyewitness News (EWN) earlier this week, “The utility claimed the strike led by the National Union of Mineworkers had not affected its coal supplies.”
The union has called on Eskom to put pressure on its coal suppliers to resolve the impasse over wages.
Thirty thousand workers have downed tools, demanding a R1 000 salary increase for its lowest paid workers.
#ANCngc #Zuma: I asked someone today – what happened to #loadshedding? People have almost forgotten about it. But we have a long way to go.

Spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe was quoted as saying, “This has nothing to do with the coal strike, these are just operational matters, meaning that it’s merely related to a technical fault.

“For example, one unit of Tutuka and the unit at the Lethabo Power Station and Duvba Power Station have experienced technical faults.”
