Free lessons for budding artists

Aspiring photographers and artists are being offered free lessons by the City of Ekurhuleni.

ALBERTON – City of Ekurhuleni is offering a free nine-month-long digital photography course to all aspiring photographers in the Tsakane, Duduza, Kwa-Thema, Nigel, Brakpan and Springs areas.

“As the City of Ekurhuleni we believe this opportunity will inspire young people to develop their own enterprises and be able to generate an income through their art so that they can contribute to the economy,” explained Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Themba Gadebe.

The photography course is set to equip students with camera techniques such as basic and theoretical camera functions, capturing and analyzing situations, interpreting themes such as night life around Ekurhuleni, photojournalism, photographing the outdoors, architecture, people, portraiture, city life and landscapes.

Photography classes will be presented every Wednesday in the Duduza Library’s group activity room. Admission is free and cameras will be provided for the duration of the course.

The City is also offering budding fine artists the opportunity to fine tune their skills through the Ekurhuleni Art Development School.

The classes will assist students whose schools do not offer art as a subject and out-of-school youth who are interested in forging a career in the visual arts.

Registration for the art classes is open until Friday, October 9.
