Cook up a storm – in a pot

A potjiekos competition will be held to assist the Alberton Child Welfare with funds.

ADRIAAN Hague, a sales associate at RE/MAX Superior, and Yianni Fotiou, owner of The Promise Grill and Seafood, have decided to take hands to help raise much-needed funds for the Alberton Child Welfare (ACW).

ACW is the second most underfunded child welfare on the East Rand.

“We’ve decided to hold a potjiekos competition and then sell the contents at a certain rate per plate,” said Adriaan.

Contestants will vie for several sponsored South African Breweries (SAB) prizes that are up for grabs. All the money raised with the potjiekos competition will be donated to ACW.

“The purpose of this competition is that we want to give back to the community. This will not be the first time that we will be involved in charity work and it won’t be the last,” said Adriaan.

The potjiekos competition will be held at The Promise Grill and Seafood at the Meyersdal Mall on the corner of Hennie Alberts Street and Michelle Avenue from 11:00 to 17:00 on September 26.

For more information contact Adriaan on 072 319 5311 or Yianni on 082 805 2857.

Rules of the potjiekos competition:

• First 20 entries will be allowed to compete.

• All competitors need to bring their own food, pots and braais.

• Only a size 3 pot and a coal fire (no gas) is allowed to be used.

• All food items are to be prepared on location. No pre-cut food items including veggies will be allowed.

• Competitors have six hours to complete their potjie.
