AMCARE helps educate victims of gender based violence

An event organised at Amcare gave at risk women and survivors of domestic abuse an opportunity to empower themselves with knowledge.

ALBERTON – Domestic violence against women and children is an ongoing issue that was addressed by AMCARE for Women’s Month.

Awareness of this problem allows community members to be empowered and find the strength and ability to be independent and to take a stand against domestic violence.

AMCARE aims to inform women and children about the resources and stakeholders that are available to those experiencing domestic violence and offers an in-depth understanding of the correct procedures to follow when reporting cases of domestic violence.

Two domestic abuse survivors and a rape survivor shared their successes and journeys at the event. There was also a representative from the Domestic Violence Court who presented information on how to obtain a protection order.

A motivational speaker also presented words of encouragement to women who are currently at the shelter, women who have left the shelter, women from the Alberton Squatter camp and other identified individuals from the Greater Alberton community.
