Bridge the Gap with Neil Diamond: Education in Ekurhuleni

Education is such an important tool to improve the lives of the people in Ekurhuleni.

ALBERTON – If people build knowledge and skill capacity through education they will be able to get better jobs, improve their environment and ultimately live a better life.

Through education we can uplift the general state of wellbeing of all citizens and residents in our city, especially the youth. Ekurhuleni supports education and for this reason the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality offers learnership programs to members of the community, developing skills, and social as well as economic stability. In addition to the learnership programs the city also offers bursaries to people that have the potential to advance their education.

All residents are encouraged to apply for an Ekurhuleni bursary especially youth, woman and people with disabilities.

Candidates must have a good academic track record and the potential to pursue full-time studies at the level of Bachelor’s degrees, national diplomas, certificates, specialised and accredited learning programmes from recognised and accredited higher and further education and training institutions. Current Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality bursary holders need not re-apply, with the exception of bursary holders who withdrew or discontinued their studies.

I would like to encourage students especially the youth to enhance their opportunities to succeed in life by obtaining a tertiary education. All bursaries are assessed and awarded in line with the Ekurhuleni bursary policy. Applicants must take note that preference will be given to those applicants that will be furthering their studies at public institutions of higher learning. If you receive a bursary maintaining a good academic record is very important as bursaries are reviewed each year based on the learner’s academic performance.

Learners and students applying for the Ekurhuleni bursary program need a valid South African ID and must be a resident of Ekurhuleni. Applicants must at least have a grade 12 certificate or submit their current matric exam results. Successful candidates will be obliged to enter into a bursary agreement with Ekurhuleni. I would encourage all interested residents to collect applications forms from any Ekurhuleni library, clinic or Customer Care Centre.

Closing date is September 18, 2015 and bursary application forms must be handed in, at any public library, clinic and Customer Care Centre.
