SAPS members de-stress with soccer

Brackendowns SAPS has created a soccer team to reduce stress and increase fitness for its officers.

ALBERTON – The Brackendowns SAPS’s soccer team was established in 2014, to help police officers to reduce stress as well as to keep fit.

According to SAPS communication officer Sgt Lindi Moloi, the team gives the officers “something to celebrate” in the midst of an extremely high stress profession.

The players are detectives and uniformed officers from various police stations, as well as members of the community who have participated in the East Rand Football Club League, made up of 16 teams.

Last year the team participated in the league championship and was placed in the top eight overall.

Midfielder Mziwoxolo Diyantyisi and goalkeeper Paul Matjeke were recognised for their performance on the field.

Engen Brackenview sponsored the team’s jerseys.
