ALBERTON- The number of children being treated and counselled for drug abuse has shown an alarming increase.

One such counsellor working with children, Charmaine Herbst, says it’s sad to realise that the number of children being treated and counselled for substance abuse is increasing and that these children are getting younger.

“We have come to a point where we are now counselling primary school children with problems,” she adds.

”Parents, and children must realise that, like other chronic diseases, addiction can be managed successfully.

”For this reason we have organised an informative session for parents, not only to create an awareness, but also to make them realise that there is help out there.”

Parents are invited to join the meeting on August 28, at 19:00, at the NG Kerk, 66 Jan Meyer Street, Southcrest, to listen to a presentation and become drug wise and familiarise themselves with the warning signs.

The presentation is free of charge. Refreshments like hot dogs, hamburgers, pancakes and cold drinks will be sold and the children can enjoy a game of putt-putt while the parents listen to the presentation.

Funds raised will go towards helping children with addictions.
