Disappointed with Alberton Home Affairs

They said they would give me a refund.

ALBERTON – Last month, my partner passed away. He was a Mozambican citizen but lived in South Africa for many years. When I went to Alberton Home Affairs to get his death certificate, I also applied for an emergency passport to travel to Mozambique. I completed the process but was told that I could not receive my passport because there was not enough time to issue it.

The supervisor that I spoke with told me that I would be able to receive a refund but when I attempted to get my money back, the staff told me that the supervisor I spoke to was not available. A month later I am still struggling to get my money back.

I don’t understand why I was not issued my emergency passport. When I applied at the Germiston offices I was helped on the same day and was able to travel to Mozambique to bury my partner.

I spent R420 at the Alberton Home Affairs office for nothing. I also had to take leave days to try and get my refund. I don’t know what to do or who to speak to now because when I go to the office the staff avoid me.

Dissatisfied

Comment:

The RECORD is trying to make contact with the correct person at Alberton Home Affairs but to date, nothing or nobody from Alberton Home Affairs has been forthcoming.
