Accident on R59: Six vehicles involved
Motorists are advised to avoid the R59, as it has been closed down for traffic completely.
According to a press release form Netcare 911, five people were injured following an accident on the R59 by Kliprivier near Vereeniging earlier today.
Emergency services were on the scene. Six vehicles were involved in the accident.
“Upon assessment of all the occupants, paramedics found that three people who were in a critical condition were entrapped in the vehicles. The fire department had to make use of the Jaws of Life to extricate the entrapped patients from the vehicle,” Santi Steinmann, Media Liaison Officer for Netcare 911 said.
One of the critically injured patients was airlifted to a nearby hospital for further medical care, and one other patient will be airlifted as well.
Two others sustained serious injuries. The two patients were treated on the scene and will be transported to hospitals for further medical care.
“Exact detail surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation,” Santi added.
