‘She could not wait for the minibus to stop’

A 42-year-old mother of two died on May 31, after jumping out of a moving minibus in Leon Street.

EDEN PARK – The deceased, Nevelina Diedericks, from Potchefstroom, attended the unveiling of the tombstone of the late Attie Mahepi, of Thames Street. She was the eldest of six siblings.

It is alleged by Diedericks’s aunt, Sophie Mahepi, who had unveiled her late husband’s tombstone, that the family was on their way back to Potchefstroom when Diedericks realised that she had forgotten her handbag at the unveiling and insisted that the driver make a U-turn to retrieve it.

“She could not wait for the minibus to stop,”‘Mahepi said.

”She was opening the door and her aunt grabbed her and told her to wait for the vehicle to stop, but she slipped out of her grip, opened the door and jumped out.

”It is possible that she hit her head on the concrete curb and died instantly.”

After the post-mortem, on June 2, Diedericks’s remains were taken to Potchefstroom, for burial on June 6.
