Proceeds from Bakwena’s annual charity golf day have been used to purchase car safety seats and defensive driver training courses for the SOS Children’s Village in Ennerdale.

The recent handover of the 14 Bum Buster children’s car safety seats and eight defensive driver training courses through MasterDrive, was arranged by Wheel Well, a non-profit company which focuses exclusively on road safety for children. Wheel Well also received R60 000 in cash from the proceeds of the Bakwena’s Golf Day.

Staff members from Bakwena know that the safety of children is a priority and they are delighted to see the funds being used to benefit the community.

To help road users comply with this important legal requirement, Bakwena is partnering with Wheel Well to collect used child car seats which are no longer needed by families whose children have outgrown them.

Car seats in any condition are welcome. They will be restored to full safety condition or, where a used seat is found to be beyond restoration, it will be appropriately recycled. Collection points have been set up at the N1 Total Petroport and N4 Total Magalies Petroport.

Bakwena, in partnership with road safety and education departments, is involved in various road safety initiatives along these routes. These initiatives include road safety education workshops, road safety talks and road safety debates, as well as the creation of a mini traffic centre.
