World class hurdler

On March 15, Armoure le Roux a year learner from Marais Viljoen set up a time of 60.46 for 400m hurdles at a meet in Rustenburg. Currently she ranks 8th in the world on the International Association for Athletics Federation and she will be going to the Youth Olympics in July this year.

ALBERTON- There is no stopping this young athlete from Hoërskool Marais Viljoen.

Armouré le Roux’s name has just been added to the list of the World Youth Team for Cali, Columbia 2015.

In primary school, Armouré took part in dancing, netball, hockey and athletics and excelled at almost all of them.

At Hoërskool Marais Viljoen, her athletics improved and it soon became clear in Grade Nine that she was a very good hurdler. She has won the victrix lodurum for the past two years.

On March 15, Armouré set a time of 60.46 for 400m hurdles at an athletics meeting in Rustenburg, the eighth fastest time in the world this year.

“So far, this year she has improved her 400m hurdles time from 67 seconds to 60.46,” said coach Maria Diamond from Diamond Athletics. Currently she ranks eighth in the world on the IAAF list in the u.18 category for the 400m hurdles. In May, Armouré took part in the CAA African Championships and achieved a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles with a time of 61.42. She came second in the medley relay. Overall, South Africa did very well and won the CAA African Championships with 17 gold, six silver and six bronze medals.

Maria is very proud of Armouré’s performance and expects her to break the 60 seconds soon.

“My gift is from God and my dream is to represent South Africa at the Olympics,” said the soft spoken athlete.

The news about her being included in the World Youth Team, to go to the Colombia World Youth Championship in July, was announced over the weekend.

“We wish Armouré all the best for the championships!” said Maria.
