Young man dies in shooting, another injured

Two brothers, who can't be named for the family's safety, were shot in Palmridge, on Monday, while they were preparing to go to work.

One died on the scene.

It is alleged by the sister, that her 22-year-old brother came out of the house at 3am and was confronted by two armed men. They tried to rob him, but he fought back and, in the scuffle, was shot in the leg.

“Our older brother (24) heard the shot and rushed outside,” the sister said.

”While both of them where fighting with the robbers, the older one was also shot at and wounded in the upper part of his body. One of the robbers then jumped the wall and ran away.”

She further alleged that the 22-year-old fought and disarmed the second thug, who also tried to jump over the wall, but was dragged back and given a good thrashing until the police arrived.

“We summoned the ambulance, but it never arrived,” she added.

”My eldest brother died on the scene and the police took the injured robber to hospital, where he remains under police custody.

”The younger brother was taken to hospital and was discharged the following day.”

The family, who are Zimbabwean migrants, transported the deceased brother to his home land for burial.

The police are still investigating and hunting for the second suspect, who escaped.
