Woman offers her house for dying man

A former police man, Paul Johannes Malgas of Alpha Street, died on Friday, April 24 in Covair Street after running with a dustbin to catch up with the rubbish collection truck.

“He ran up to my gate and stopped, saying he felt tired and funny. Suddenly he collapsed and was just quiet. It happened so quickly. In a couple of minutes he was no more. We carried him into my house and I saw him, dying in front of me,” said the shocked Stephane Seedat.

The pensioner was declared dead by the paramedics. “We called the paramedics, who arrived shortly after the call. The Catholic priest also witnessed the poor man collapsing and phoned for an ambulance, which arrived in minutes,” she said.

She further explained how she asked the paramedics to carry the pensioner into her house to be examined. The paramedics then reported that he stopped breathing and that his heart also stopped. They declared him dead, saying he had suffered a severe heart attack.

“I could not believe what the paramedics were saying. One moment I saw him (Oom Malgas) running with the dustbin, and the next moment he was dead in my house,” concluded Staphane.

Paul Malgas was a policeman in the years back when the station was still situated in Lancia Street. He was laid to rest on Saturday, May 2.
