The Bag Lady

As autumn draws close we’ll be looking to cooking pots of delicious and nourishing soup, whether it’s leek and potato, minestrone, butternut, pea and ham or whatever you fancy.

Checkers, Pick n Pay and Woolies are now selling ready-made soups in tins or convenient packets to just warm up, or soup mixes with everything ready chopped and ready to cook. These are a great option as you can enjoy making your own tasty soups with very little effort, and to make the soup mix go further you can add one or two chopped potatoes. All you need apart from the ready chopped soup mix is butter/oil, water and stock. Serve the soup with croutons, Ciabatta bread or toast fingers. For a more filling soup, add cooked bacon, chicken or beef. A quick and tasty meal which is relatively economical.

A delightful gift

The Cake Lover’s Recipe Notebook is a must-have for anyone who loves cake.

Available at Exclusive Books, The Glen Shopping Centre (R343), this delightful book will make a beautiful birthday or wedding gift.

The passion for baking is big right now, and home baked cakes always go down a treat. This gorgeous-looking notebook is a super place to keep all your favourite recipes, which have been given to you by family or friends, or cut out from a magazine.

The notebook is separated into eight sections from basic ingredients, essential equipment and techniques to beating and folding in and sandwich tins. There’s also space to make your own notes. The sections include Cake-Tin Cakes, Everyday Cakes, Little Cakes, Posh Cakes, Fancies & Frivolities and Celebration Cakes and offers two mouth-watering recipes in each section to get you started.

New Redruth Village

I popped along to this popular shopping centre last week and it’s really got everything. The PNA is fantastic, with greetings cards, wrapping paper, scrap booking supplies, arts and crafts, gifts and much more.

There are a few fashion shops, restaurants, Pick n Pay, hair salon, Woolworths, ATM’s pharmacy and other outlets, all for your convenience with lots of parking.

A pleasure to shop here.

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop.
