Mayor shuffles the deck

The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Councillor Mondli Gungubele announced the reshuffling of his mayoral committee on Thursday, March 27.

The decision came after the debate of the State of the City Address at council.

“Yesterday we delivered the State of the City Address. One of the key elements of this address was accelerating service delivery towards the end of the term for the current term of local government office in 2016.

“We gave a full report of how we have done since we took office in May 2011. However, in an effort to optimise service delivery, we must continuously assess our performance so that the necessary interventions can be made. Every healthy organisation must reflect on its performance on a regular basis to determine if the machinery remains relevant to the course,” Gungubele explained.

“While we are happy with the progress made thus far, we believe that with some reconfiguration we can do more.”

The new mayoral committee is as follows:

Finance – Cllr Moses Makwakwa

Health – Cllr Makhosazana Mabaso

Water and Energy – Cllr Doctor Xhakaza

Community Safety – Cllr Vivian Chauke

City Planning and Economic Development – Cllr Thumbu Mahlangu

Human Settlement – Cllr Aubrey Nxumalo

Corporate and Shared Services – Cllr Queen Duba

Roads and Transport – Cllr Petros Muhlari

Environment – Cllr Ndosi Shongwe

Sports, Heritage, Recreation, Arts and Culture – Cllr Dorah Mlambo.

Councillors who have been re-deployed by the ANC to other structures in council are Mthuthuzeli Siboza (Community Safety), Zeni Tshongweni (Sport), Tilly Mabena (Environment), Phelisa Nkunjana (Corporate and Shared Services) and Bennet Nikani (Economic Development).

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the colleagues who have served us with aplomb in the past years, and wish the new team luck in discharging their duties,” Gungubele concluded.
