Eden Park SAPS disappoints

EDEN PARK - I am a resident of Eden Park with a complaint against Eden Park SAPS.

There is an increase of break-ins in our area and we’re girls living alone in my mothers house. We’ve called the station more than three times to have them come out and arrest nyaope-smoking thugs in our yard, but to no avail. We dialled 112 and was put through to the police station in Eden Park, where a very rude and abrupt officer took the call, asking me how long we’ve been living at our address.

I got frustrated as the thugs were in the yard trying to break down our shed. So we called my cousin and he took us up to the station at 05:00, and to our surprise the officers on duty were all asleep behind the counter. I asked to see the lady who answered the phone and was told: “She’s in the toilet.” I waited until she came out, asked her politely why she asked me all those questions and she started screaming and shouting.

I wanted to take a few pics with my phone, but the male officers threatened to throw me in the holding cell. When we asked for their names, they removed their badges. They caused a scene and wanted to throw us out. My main concern is that we were being attacked and reached out for help, but was shut down.

My mother served SAPS for more than 10 years and this is the thanks we’re getting from them? We only wanted help, and on three occasions no van was sent out to our rescue! Instead they’re sleeping on duty, or they’re having cake and cool drinks at the counter. I told them I was going to report them to the captain, as we know him because of my mother. All they did was laugh, curse and perform.

I would really like them to get their act together. We are living in a very dangerous community and we need them. Something needs to be done with these people. They can’t get away with it all the time! There is never a van, because they are too busy driving around and assisting domestic violence cases, because they like things like that! While we’re being burgled, they’re sleeping.
