DA helps shine a light for learners

As promised, Alberton DA councillors have donated 50 solar lights and 20 solar study lamps to learners of Thina Sonke Informal Settlement.

ALBERTON – The lamps were donated in support of the community and their students who do not have access to proper housing or electricity.

“The ongoing energy crisis is the largest obstacle to economic growth in the country. A lack of electricity not only threatens the sustainability of businesses and jobs, but also proves to be a major obstacle in terms of students being able to successfully receive and complete their education,” DA spokesperson Tanya Heyderych stated in a press release.

“Electricity plays a crucial part in the education of learners, since most students must study at night after a day at school. Therefore the expansion of the country’s power grid is crucial for upgrading informal settlements and giving poor students the change to succeed,” Tanya added.
