ALBERTON-The Alberton Business forum kicked off on a high note with Veli Ndaba’s inspirational talk, “How to create your own luck”.

Veli touched on setting very specific goals and surrounding yourself with a good team to reach those goals. He stressed that each person has something unique to offer the world, and that you don’t want to look back at 80 and realise that you never reached your dreams. He likened it to driving from Johannesburg to Alberton, but talking on the cellphone while driving, and once you reach your destination, you have no clue as to how you got there. You need to be aware of what is happening in your life and focus on the important goals.

Veli was born in Soweto, Emdeni Township. After school he completed a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Johannesburg and a Bachelor of Science in Management Science at the University of South Africa.

After entering the corporate world,Veli soon reached managerial level through hard work and dedication. However, he felt something was missing. “I did not feel alive. It was as if something was suffocating me, and I knew I had to make a change. After all, if we do not move forward, life will just move on without us,” he says.

He started a company in 2011 based in Alberton called Sekusile Technical Services, specialising in corporate training, asset management and management consulting, and recruitment services.

He joined the international communication and leadership organisation, Toastmasters International, and after three years became president of the Alberton toastmaster club. Veli is also a motivational speaker and the author of his upcoming book titled You Are Born to Win!, which launches on February 22.

Veli lives in Alberton with his wife Mpumi and two sons, Ntokozo and Sanele.
