Garden Club enjoys talk on homegrown produce

Guest speaker Morné Brits, director of Kironia Environmental, spoke to Johannesburg South Garden Club members on Tuesday January 27 about conservation and ecology in home gardens.

“Grow your own salad produce and vegetables. In the process of the consumer wanting to purchase perfect vegetables most of the flavour has been lost. Fresh produce grown organically in your own garden is the best assurance that your family’s food is safe and not contaminated by toxic chemicals often used in commercial growing. If you have plenty of vegetables, too much for you to consume, share with others,” said Morné.

Afterwards there were garden products available to buy, including insect houses, plant hangers and packets of seeds.
