Speedsters caught on N12 and R59

EMPD had speed checks on two highways close to Alberton on Sunday November 30, where seven speedsters were apprehended.

ALBERTON – The first speed check was on the N12 westbound, between the R59 bridge (Reading Interchange) and the Comaro off-ramp. The second was on the Sybrand van Niekerk (R59) freeway southbound, between the M7 bridge and the Heidelberg off-ramp.

The speed checks were done between 05:00 and 10:00 on Sunday morning.

Seven speedsters were apprehended after they exceeded the speed limit of 120km per hour.

A female driver was caught doing 170km at 06:05, and her reason for speeding was because she was late for church. Others were caught driving between 162km/h and 165km/h.

A male driver was caught at a speed of 182km/h on the R59 at 09:37.

All the law-breakers have been arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving. They have been taken to Alberton and Brackendowns Police stations and will appear in Palmridge Magistrate’s court soon.
