SPCA’s auction Wednesday on Facebook

Alberton SPCA shows initiative by making their Facebook page work for them.

ALBERTON -Wednesday have become synonymous with auction for the Alberton SPCA.

This tradition was started by the previous committee, who had some success with it. When the new committee came into being, they decided to carry on with the Facebook auctions as part of promoting the secondhand store on the SPCA premises.

The secondhand store sells various items donated by the public. The shop brings in an income for the SPCA, but the auction is another way that they use to increase their funds.

The items that are auctioned on Facebook are usually selected from the store and usually selected because they stand out as a little more special than other items. This ensures excitement for the auction, but also makes the public aware of the more unique items that are donated to the shop.

Once the team have decided on an item, they research the price of the article and choose a starting price for the auction.

The photo of the item and the starting price is posted on the Facebook page every Wednesday, stating the opening bid and when the bid closes. Bids usually close on Fridays at 12:30.

Supporters can bid on the product by commenting their bid amount on the photo, and as with any auction, the highest bid wins. The highest bidder is then also announced on the photo.

The winners then have one month to collect their items, and the item can be paid either on collection or via an Electronic Funds Transfer.

If the item is not collected in a month the prize is forfeited and will go on auction again, regardless if it has been paid or not.

So if you want to get in on the auction, be sure to visit Alberton SPCA’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Alberton-SPCA/1471356596426904)

The SPCA rely solely on the support of the public, and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continuous support.
