‘Hats Off’ for the SANSUI Summer Cup 2014

SANSUI Summer Cup 2014 will be presented by Racing – It’s A Rush, in conjunction with their main sponsors SANSUI and Gauteng Tourism Authority.

RACING will come to a standstill at Turffontein Racecourse when the top field will take each other on in Gauteng’s Premier horseracing event of the summer.

SANSUI Summer Cup 2014 will be presented by Racing, It’s A Rush, in conjunction with their main sponsors SANSUI and the Gauteng Tourism Authority, on Saturday November 29.

This prestigious event is taking the legacy of becoming the Highveld’s premier racing event of the year. With the enormous synergy that it creates under the racing fraternity after 127 this year will be no exception of being a thrilling affair.

The rich heritage will take one further step this year to bring back the thrills and spills of horse racing. Turffontein Racecourse will stage a much bigger event and more extravagant than ever before.

“The Summer Cup has a profound and iconic history of horse racing indulgence. It’s Joburg’s horse racing heart; the pulse, the beat and the soul of thoroughbred racing for the Golden Region,” said Mike Varney of Racing. It’s a Rush, the event’s racing and gaming partner.

“The desire for this year’s event is to reinvigorate the sport of horse racing with a revived passion to a new and vibrant audience,” he says. This goal has set the tone for this year’s marketing activities which includes a first for The SANSUI Summer Cup, a festive online viral video. The video Jozi Jockeys showcases a comical rhetoric regarding the fun and excitement of a day at the races, in a typically Johannesburg style through the story of taxi driver jockeys, which are synonymous with the city.

The revitalised appetite of sponsors and partners has the pace set with more celebrity shine, fashion festivities and racing rush than ever before. Marc Joubert, Group Group Marketing Executive at SANSUI in South Africa, is passionate about the event in its entirety. “SANSUI are pleased to enter into our sixth year of sponsorship with an event of such stature, because it reflects the qualities that SANSUI, a globally recognised consumer electronics brand, is well known for; quality, aspiration and credibility. The premium occasion is a unique union of the entertainment, sport and fashion industries in one powerful and exuberant event,” said Joubert.

For racing industry familiars and newbies the day is a rush of racing excitement, with a total of 12 races taking place across the day. The main event will feature only the top thoroughbreds of 2014, challenging one another over 2 000 metres for a staggering stake of R2 million.

For the fashionistas and socialites the day has more than enough style and glamour to fill the mid-race moments with true paparazzi appeal. A fashion show, a set theme and best dressed competitions await the glamorous race goers. To excite a truly celebratory mood – a celebration of Jozi, racing and ourselves – the theme has been suitably set as “Hats Off”. So grab your best hat, suit up and prepare for a day at the races.

As class, elegance and beauty are all at the core of this annual occasion, SANSUI are thrilled to announce that the multi-talented Dineo Moeketsi is the Face of The SANSUI Summer Cup 2014. The gorgeous actress, TV presenter and singer is delighted to have been cherry-picked for the role.

“I am both honoured and excited to be welcoming guests to this significant event in November and I am looking forward to leading celebrities through the Racing. It’s a Rush Celebrity Dash on the day,” said Moeketsi.

Thanks to Racing. It’s a Rush, this year’s Celebrity Dash – now in its fourth year – will see the winning celebrity giving away R475 000 to the chosen charity, SOS Children’s Village. The heated sprint has grown in popularity and this year 20 of Jozi’s top celebrities are awaiting their turn at the course for a cause. “We are over the moon with the generosity shown by Racing. It’s a Rush and SANSUI Summer Cup,” said Yvonne Stiglingh of SOS Children’s Village.

At The SANSUI Summer Cup the giving doesn’t end at charity. The SANSUI Summer Cup is quite evidently in the mood to give the Jozi crowd and visitors a spectacular day to remember. This year, on race day, SANSUI will be giving away ten cars valued at R100 000 each.

All race goers stand a chance to win, simply by attending on the day. Additional prizes up for grabs include best dressed honours in five chic categories: Most Elegant Lady, Most Stylish Lad, Most Striking Couple, Best Hat and Best Mo-Bro of Movember. One Fashion show will be hosted on the day at the racecourse in association with DSSA (Design School of Southern Africa) and Steele Models Studio. For the ladies, the Mo-Kini Sprint remains the sign-off activity as a handful of SA’s hottest men swap their kit for mankinis to complete a cheeky 200m dash to raise awareness for Movember SA.

Various entertainment and catering sections will offer race goers a wide variety of food and fun. The popularity of the Shisha Nyama area and the Summer Fair picnic spots means you should book your tickets and group sections sooner rather than later.
