The Woman@Work event held on Wednesday September 10 at Thaba Eco Hotel, touched base with a mountain climber and heard all about The Sunflower Fund, which was the Charity of Choice for the evening.

KLIPRIVIERSBERY NATURE RESERVE – Guest speaker was Marlette Hegyi, who spoke about Climbing the Seven Summits. Marlette was born and raised in Natal, studied skin therapy, and has owned various businesses over the past 10 years. She enjoys various outdoor sports which are mostly male dominated: particularly mountain biking, hiking and enduro motorbiking.

Her passion though is the extreme sport of mountaineering and her mission is to climb seven summits. She showed video footage of the mountains she has climbed so far and chatted about how she keeps sane while she’s climbing. Marlette is preparing now to climb Mount Everest early next year.

Shelby Zimmerman from The Sunflower Fund, showed a video about stem cell donation and actually how easy it is to become a donor. For more information on becoming a bone marrow stem cell donor or making a much needed financial donation  please call toll free 0800 12 10 82 or visit their website:  www.sunflowerfund.org.za

The evening was enjoyed by all the ladies and it was a great evening to network and enjoy the company of likeminded women.
