Ekurhuleni invests R500 000 for a water tower

The Palmridge area has been experiencing water pressure problems, hopefully the investment will go a long way towards dealing with the challenges faced.

ALBERTON – A Water tower in Ysterhout Street, Palm Ridge, that has not been operational for the last 20 years in certain areas, is set to be sealed as part of the maintenance levy project request for 2014/2015, which is to be implemented by the Ekurhuleni Metro.

This project is estimated to cost R500 000 and has already been escalated to the necessary officials within the Ekurhuleni Municipality and the appointed companies.

Councillor Samantha Nair explains in an email that the Vosloorus Water Depot has requested funding from the office of the divisional head to assist with the sealing of the leaking reservoir as soon as possible.

“One of the main concerns would be the lack of funds for certain projects. The other concern is the informal settlements around the Palmridge extention, as there is not another infrastructure in place to accommodate the needs of the area,” said Councillor Nair.

In the mail, it also makes mention of a permanent solution to the problem. The water tower will be filled with water again after the repairs. A request to check the water quality will be made, before it can be allowed into the reticulation network.

The facility includes a water tower supplying the Palm Ridge area, but some areas are affected where no water is received. The old reservoir still exists and a new one will be implemented in the future.

“This information is to put the community at peace with the situation,” said Councillor Samantha Nair.

Councillor Samantha Nair promises to keep residents of Palmridge informed about delays or developments. Her contact number is 082 921 2856.
