NFPYM decries firing of Generations cast

"We are giving SABC seven days to bring back our actors or we will embark on a campaign to stop paying TV licences."

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The NFPYM is against the firing of Generations actors and actresses, who are on strike for better salaries and contracts.

“As the NFP Youth Movement, we are deeply concerned about these developments. We urge all the parties involved to engage on this matter in good faith and find an amicable solution. But at the same time, we want to make this call to all South Africans to boycot watching Generations.

“The SABC should not be allowed to exploit actors by paying them meagre wages when its own bosses, some who do not even qualify to be in senior positions, pockets millions in salaries,” said NFPYM secretary-general, Busi Tshabalala.

Tshabalala also said if this matter is not resolved in seven days, they will march to the SABC.

“We are in solidarity with the actors as employees. They must be reinstated or the national broadcaster will face the wrath of millions of South Africans, who watch the SABC.

“The public broadcaster boasts that Generations is watched by more than seven millions people and these actors make the soap opera number one,” she said.

The NFPYM plans to lobby for South Africans to stop paying their TV licences if this matter is not resolved amicably.

“We are giving SABC seven days to bring back our actors or we will embark on a campaign to stop paying TV licences with immediate effect,” she added.
