Building collapse: Meyersdal Eco Estate tragedy update

According to reports two pillars were removed that caused a concrete slab to collapse on top of the workers.

ALBERTON – The structure that collapsed at the Meyersdal Eco Estate yesterday has claimed several lives.

According to the latest reports seven people have tragically lost their lives. Seven construction workers have died on site. One of the workers who passed on site was a site supervisor.

According to reports two pillars were removed that caused a concrete slab to collapse on top of the workers.

The contractors are unsure of the number of workers present on the site when the building collapsed. They have estimated that there were 25 workers on site at the time of the collapse.

There were two different construction companies working on site.

The SAPS dog unit revealed this morning at 8:15 that there may possibly be two more bodies under the rubble.

Reports that the Disaster and Emergency Management Services stopped working last night are untrue. They worked throughout the night.

Brackendowns SAPS has set up a victim support and family counselling unit. They are counselling survivors and family members of those who have lost their lives.
