EMM appointments and promotions under spotlight

Concerns have been raised by Councillor Izak Berg on promotions and appointments within the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality.

According to Cllr Berg the appointments made by the EMM is a clear indication of “posts for pals” and why officials at the Metro are unhappy. They are not promoted and people outside the metro stand no chance of being employed.

Six officials have been recruited by the EMM with the assistance of the Human Communication as the service provider. All six officials have been recruited from Arivia.Kom. (Arivia.Kom provides information technology services and solutions in South Africa.)

Three of the six positions were newly created and the other three were vacant positions.

Officials within the Metro are unhappy because this does not leave much space for growth within the Municipality. If individuals from outside are recruited to fill positions, those who have worked for EMM for a number of years do not have the opportunity to be promoted.

It is also noted that none of those recruited have any experience within local government, and after the first person who was recruited from Arivia.Kom at least one person who previously worked for the company was also a member of the interviewing panel.
