Scrap the e-tolling system

It is with interest that I follow the debacle about the e-tolling system.

ALBERTON – My discontent is regarding all the comments made by the bright sparks who look no further than their ludicrous attempts at trying to find a solution that would satisfy every motorist by introducing a toll-levy on our fuel usage, instead of paying etoll fees.

I am sure that there are a great number of motorists like me who never need to use the toll roads as our journeys are restricted to town driving. For example: working in close proximity to home, shopping, fetching children from school, visiting family and friends that live in a perimeter where toll-gantries do not exist.

This poses the question of why we have to fork out for another levy that does not justify our needs. Given the mess the administration of the toll system is experiencing, I doubt whether they have the expertise to identify these motorists who never use these offensive roads.

Maybe we will be forced to produce a log-book to prove our point and be reimbursed for the levy that will take ages to verify before payback. Going down this road may not be such a great idea after all, as it will expose one’s bank account number and before you know it you will be billed accordingly.

Therefore my view is: Scrap the e-tolling system and then all motorists will be treated fairly!
