The Bag Lady

I’ve not had much time for browsing the shops this past week but what I have noticed, there are many stores having sales.

@HomeLivingSpace presently has a sale on and they have some gorgeous home items on sale, including luxury towels, duvet covers, hand creams, hand soaps, candles and candle holders, coffee mugs, dinner services and lots more! Now is definitely the time to begin Christmas shopping, you won’t regret it. Having gifts at home is also wonderful if you have that unexpected birthday. Keep in mind other sales which will be taking place in the next month or two.

Woolworths will hopefully have its end of winter sale soon, and usually they have some great reductions. Use your WRewards card and you often get a further 10 percent off the reduced price. Now that’s not bad!

It’s so easy
Make a list of who you have to buy for, what they like (if you know), and more or less a price you are willing to pay. If you have a spare cupboard at home, use this for storing gifts you purchase, otherwise get a large cardboard box which can be filled up. Umm, where to store the box! I’m sure you can find a suitable place. Depending on how many family members and friends you buy for, aim to buy at least four gifts a month. Keep a look out in the pull-out brochures in your local paper and make a note of items you wish to buy. Visit local toy and book shops every month, they too often have sale goods. Clicks and DisChem have weekly/ monthly toiletry/ beauty/ makeup specials. Sometimes you’ll find ‘Buy two, get three’ items. These smaller beauty products make great gifts for teachers and office colleagues. You’ll be amazed how quickly the gifts add up. Also buy gift wrapping and ribbons. I know Christmas paper, etc, won’t be available right now but silver and gold wrapping paper is always in the shops. Get shopping!

Moms and tots parking bays
Chatting to a colleague the other day, she was telling me how many shopping centres in Natal and the Cape have parking bays for moms and tots. This is a brilliant idea and one, I’m sure, all mothers will agree with.

I’ve often seen moms exiting a shopping centre, on their own, with a baby and a toddler and also trying to manoeuvre a shopping trolley. Certainly not an easy prospect! It would make life so much easier for them if there were a few parking bays close by to one or more of the entrances to the shopping centre. With regards to safety it’s also a good idea. Once the children are safely buckled into their car seats, as it is now, you have to either leave the trolley where you shouldn’t, and infuriate car park users, or put your children’s lives in danger leaving them alone, while you return your empty trolley to the trolley bays. I know which one I’d choose. I believe Lakeside Mall in Benoni and Sandton City have Moms and Tots parking bays, so why can’t other centres do the same? There are lots of moms and tots who shop and this small gesture would be fantastic. Local shopping centres, please take note.
