Shin-Gi-Tai karateka graduate at Alberton Retirement Village

After senseis Llewellyn Oosthuizen and Veronica van den Heever of Shin-Gi-Tai Karate Academy attended a concert at the Retirement Village last year, they were impressed with the dancing and vibrancy of the retired people.

After speaking to the social worker, they received permission to start a karate club for the people of the village.

This club started in May this year and all their instructors joined to assist them, as well as their children and grandchildren.

Petro Coulthard and Wilna Jenkinson of the village passed the grading for a yellow belt.

Abby Nel obtained her orange belt, and Marquis van den Heever, his green belt.

Two instructors, Natasha Jordan Nel and Shannon Carmen Thomas, passed the pre-grading for a black belt.

The karate students practice at the Alberton Retirement Village on Mondays and Thursdays at 18:00.

For more information, contact sensei Llewellyn Oosthuizen at 082 464 4912 and sensei Jacques Albasini at 083 271 4592.

All ages are welcome. The club aims to keep fit and learn self-defence through karate.
