Alberton boxers get ready for SA champs
Alberton Boxing Club wishes three of their fighters well after being selected to go into the ring from September 24 to 28.
Alberton Boxing Club’s JP Du Plooy, Kiara Kilfoil and Karien Els were recently selected to compete at the South African championships from September 24 to 28 in Limpopo.
This is after the trio was scheduled to take part in the Gauteng championships. However, they were all declared winners of those bouts through walkovers in their different weight divisions.
Coach Pieter Strydom from the club was also selected to join the Gauteng team as their manager.
The club’s management congratulated the trio for qualifying to compete in the SA champs and wished them well. Du Plooy will compete in the Junior Boys category (57kg) and Kilfoil will compete in the Junior Girls category (66kg) while Els will contend in the School Age category (66kg).
The rising stars expressed their readiness ahead of the boxing competition.
Strydom also invited all new members who wanted to join the sport.
They train from Mondays to Thursdays from 17:00 to 18:30 at the corner of Second and Helston streets in Florentia.
