Young scientists shine at Science Day

The Grade 0 learners at Junior Colleges Castillian had an unforgettable experience when they hosted their very own Science Day, showcasing experiments they had prepared themselves.

The event aimed to ignite a passion for science among the learners and, through hands-on activities, allow them to explore the wonders of scientific discovery.

Tables were set up around the school’s field, each featuring a unique experiment created by a Grade 0 learner.
The atmosphere was filled with curiosity and anticipation as the young scientists eagerly explained their projects to teachers, parents and classmates.

“We wanted to encourage our students to take an active role in their learning,” said Zay Prasadh, the Grade 0 teacher who helped organise the event.

“By letting them choose and demonstrate their own experiments, we hoped to build their confidence and inspire a genuine interest in science.”

The experiments were as diverse as the learners themselves. Some showcased the classic volcano experiment, complete with fizzing eruptions caused by a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Others demonstrated the power of magnets.

Parents and guardians were also invited to participate, and their presence added to the event’s festive atmosphere. Many expressed their admiration for the learners’ creativity and enthusiasm.

Throughout the day, the Grade 0 learners moved from table to table, observing each other’s experiments and asking questions. This interaction encouraged a spirit of collaboration and teamwork, allowing them to learn from one another while building their social skills.

The Grade 0 teachers were on hand to guide discussions, ask thought-provoking questions, and provide insights into the scientific principles at play.

At the end of the event, every participant received a certificate of achievement and a medal to recognise their efforts and creativity.

Principal Elriza Riddle was thrilled with the day’s success, commenting, “It’s incredible to see our Grade 0 learners already developing a love for science. We hope that by allowing them to explore and present their experiments, we are nurturing future scientists, engineers, and thinkers.”

As the day wrapped up, the Grade 0 learners left the school buzzing with excitement, eager to continue exploring the wonders of science. With big smiles and even bigger dreams, they proved that anyone, no matter their age, can be a scientist.
