SAPS finds man (51) with unlicensed rifles, pistol in Alberton

Three unlicensed firearms were recovered in Alberton during a crime-busting operation that saw the arrest of 245 suspects in the Ekurhuleni district.

Law enforcers and other stakeholders arrested 245 suspects for various offences between August 23 and 25 during their operations.

The crime-busting operations across the Ekurhuleni policing precincts saw eight unlicensed firearms removed from the streets.

Among the suspects, detectives nabbed 192 during their suspects raiding operations, of which 109 were nabbed for contact crimes, 41 for other serious crimes, 26 for GBV and 13 others for property-related crimes.

According to the SAPS Ekurhuleni district communication officer, Captain Nelda Sekgobela, three unlicensed firearms were recovered in Alberton on Thursday evening.

“This is after law enforcement agencies followed up on information regarding one of the houses. A 51-year-old male suspect was found in possession of three unlicensed rifles and a pistol. The suspect was linked to one of the murder cases in Thokoza,” she said.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, thanked the members who made the arrests and the community members who helped the SAPS.
