Palm Ridge court crippled by blackout

Power has been off since the evening of August 25, crippling the whole of Palm Ridge and parts of Sky City.

Palm Ridge residents were left in the dark from August 25 around 18:00 and are still without power.

This has caused much frustration and great inconvenience to locals depending on electricity. Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court was just as crippled by blackouts, thus affecting court proceedings.

“We have been without power since last night and we don’t know what the issue is. The whole of Palm Ridge is without power and Sky City residents are also affected, they’re also without power. Clr Naidoo and I have been trying to get updates, but we are not receiving anything constructive from the City of Ekurhuleni,” said Ward 94 Clr Samantha Nair, who also lives in the area.

She said they were not sure if power would be restored on the estimated turnaround time.

This follows communication from the city, which stated: “Germiston Energy is aware of the outage affecting Palm Ridge. There is no estimated turnaround time at this point. The next update will be at 15:00.”

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini informed the Alberton Record he would follow up on the matter.
