Locals give new Martelise Meaker Children’s In-Patient Unit a facelift

As the new Martelise Meaker Children’s In-Patient Unit nears completion, locals dedicated their time and resources to show acts of kindness.

Generous community members and the business community lent a helping hand with planting, weeding, landscaping and general tidying at the new Martelise Meaker Children’s In-Patient Unit in Raceview.

Stepping Stone Palliative Care Services was pleased to welcome support from the many locals who put their green fingers to work during the Mandela Day Garden Drive. They were also grateful to receive generous donations from the public.

Dave Hawkins of The Creative Café, whose birthday was on the day, closed their offices and with his entire staff, they dedicated their time to help out at the new children’s unit.

“Stepping Stone Hospice has been close to our hearts for many years. They’re doing amazing work. The day was all about the celebration of the children’s unit, and we were so happy to be part of this occasion.

“We decided to take on ownership of the portion of the garden and we’ll landscape it, make it as pretty and fun as possible. Over time, we’re going to maintain it as well,” he said.

Mark Conradie of Emisha Card Payments said: “Both my parents passed away in the Hospice and they were looked after well. I had my whole team assisting, we were just making a difference.”

“This is going to be a place of love, hope and support, not only for the little ones but for parents and siblings as well. If it wasn’t for these people’s generosity, I wouldn’t have had the money for the garden,” a pleased Tersia Burger, CEO at Stepping Stone Hospice and Care Services said.

Stepping Stone Palliative Care Services is thrilled to invite the community to experience their brand new Martelise Meaker Children’s In-Patient Unit on July 27 at 12 Glen Albyn Street, Raceview when they celebrate the opening of the new premises next weekend.
